'My Father was diagnosed with COPD about 11 years ago

Hello Everyone:

My name is Jackie Gauthier and I live in Massachusetts. I have just returned from Washington State from a visit with my father. He is 62 and was diagnosed with COPD about 11 years ago. I am a little distraught right now, as his health has really declined. Its very disappointing. He is young and I just believe that there must be some treatment option out there for him.

My aunt found this site and I have started to comb though the material. I need to speed up the process of where to go for help for him. It feels like we are running out of time. He was hospitalized two weeks ago, and we didn't think we'd get past it. But we did and he is home. I have currently started introducing him back to the Isotonix supplementation- MultiVitamin, Vitamin C, OPC-3, Complete Greens, B Complex, they are drinkable supplements that I personally use. In the last week, it seems this are helping with his nutrition deficiency and giving him some strength. I am also trying to keep his hope alive because I believe that positive mental attitude will be his biggest allay.

He is on a lot of medications too. I read Resveratol is useful for COPD. Currently, he is on coumadin and the label stated that users should not mix the two.

I am looking for a stem cell treatment option in the United States preferably on the West Coast where we can take him for treatment.

His case a bit complicated, but I am hopeful that he can improve and live a better life with the help of others.

Can someone please help direct me as I am knew to this topic - I only know a little bit and I am trying to find a safe clinic and cut through the red tape.

Hi MsJackie,

The only doctor on the west coast that is treating COPD is Dr. Steenblock. His clinic is in Mission Viejo. Unfortunately, the treatments that doctors are allowed to do in the U.S. are not going to reverse COPD or induce much regenerative response. The FDA is responsible for this. Stem cell therapy is in its infancy and there are no guarantees, but for the best possible shot at getting a treatment that will be far more clinically relevant than what the FDA allows, your dad would need to go to an offshore clinic. I will be happy to send you a list of those that treat COPD that are located in Tijuana.

You should also check out the thread in the pulmonary section on glutathione. This might help him. When you say his case is a bit complicated, does he have other issues besides COPD?

COPD is a progressive disease. Without stem cell therapy I know I would not be leading the life I am today. We also have another forum that he or you or both of you should join. www.copdliving.com

I am Everett and I have advanced COPD. I want you to know that your Dad's M D needs to really be at the top of the learning curve on COPD. If he is not then you need to find one that is. I started with a group that were/are supposed to be top dogs in the field. The M D that I had told me tht they were doing all that could be done for someone like me at my "stage" of emphysema. They treated my symptoms and every time I went into the hospital with an exascerbation-an acute flare up of respiratory/breathing inability she would only say that it was to be expected and that they were doing all they could. I had one very bad event and they could not get me into a hospital in San Antonio, Texas so my family kept me in our county's local hospital. We had a pulmonologist there and he started taking care of me. After seven days he told me that I was not responding to treatments as I should and he wanted to do a bronchioscopy on me. When the group I had been going to in San Antonio heard this they said no! Don't let him do it. The short of it is he did the procedure, extracted two liters of fluid off my lungs, found three different infections going on in my lungs and started treating them. That was three and a half years ago. He has me on a pretty even keel and is in favor of me having adult stem cell transplant done to see if it will help my condition. Barbara has given me a list of doctors that will treat me and I am going to go to Dr. Feinerman in Florida this month or the first of August. I chose him because Jeannine has been to him twice lately and likes him and the way he has taken care of her. My pulmonary doctor told me that if he had gotten me in 2000 instead to the bunch in San Antonio that I would be out playing golf with him. I do not have his permission to give you his name and contact information but I am anyway. If I had had this info I would not be oin the mess I'm in now. Treatments that are legal in the U.S. are not going to be a one time shot. This needs to be considered when thinking about therapy.

This is true. Note at the bottom of each thread there are listed how many each person has been treated. Barbara has been numerous time, Jeannine twice and me none yet. Good luck with your Dad. Try not to get discouraged. You will run into some non productive endevours but keep trying.keep us posted.

My thoughts are:
I want to make the introduction to a Lung Specialist while I am out in Washington because currently and for sometime he is only being seen by a Family Doctor. Not my idea!

We need an experienced specialist to manage his care. I prefer to make the introduction to a Dr. who also has experience with Stem Cell too so that we can look at a variety of options, no just very narrowly.

But either way, if we find a specialist, I want them to be open to other treatment options now just the XYZ formula for COPD - which is not working very well for us at this point.

I have a very busy schedule and I am trying to research and read in between.
