Lung stem cell discovery may lead to new treatments

New research has shed light on the human lung stem cell, which could lead to completely new treatments that could benefit people with chronic lung diseases.

Stem cells are able to turn into different types of cell, and can also duplicate themselves. Research into stem cells is an important development in medicine as it could give scientists the ability to regenerate and reproduce damaged organs to treat people.

This new study marks the first time scientists have been able to describe a human lung stem cell. The research found that the human lung stem cell can renew itself and help repair damaged lung cells. It also plays an important role in regenerating tissue in the lung.

The scientists also found that the stem cell can form and integrate various biological structures of the lung, including alveoli, the tiny breathing sacs where oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged between air and blood; bronchioles, the small airways that connect the alveoli to the main airways; and pulmonary vessels, the blood vessels that serve the lungs.

The findings could lead to the recreation of new lung tissue in the future, to replace damaged areas of the lungs in people with chronic lung diseases.

Notice how it's always some vague "in the future"

We've been hearing this for several years now.
