I'm fine with educating the public on stem cell research and clinical use as long as it doesn't include "education" on "dubious" stem cell clinics. This doesn't elaborate what the Hot Topics will be. Hopefully, not the usual paternalism.

The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is teaming up with promoters of the 2014 World Stem Cell Summit to offer a special public education day in advance of the three-day conference, slated for Dec. 3-5.

The informational event is scheduled for Dec. 2 at the Health Science Center and will focus on stem cell research and regenerative medicine. The event is free and open to the public.

The Health Science Center is an organizing sponsor of the 2014 World Stem Cell Summit, which will be held in San Antonio for the first time. The summit is expected to draw researchers and other industry experts, as well as investors, from across the globe.

The Public Education Day will include a special morning lecture, "Stem Cells: Their Biology and Promise for Regenerative Medicine," delivered by Elaine Fuchs, a professor at The Rockefeller University in New York. The event will also include three afternoon sessions in the Health Science Center's Holly Auditorium: Stem Cells 101, Health Care Applications and Hot Topics.

Experts from the Health Science Center, University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas Biomedical Research Institute, U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research, South Texas Veterans Health Care System, Texans for Stem Cell Research, BioBridge Global, INCELL Corp. and Baylor College of Medicine will serve on the public education day panels.
