Sunrise, Fla.-based Bioheart, Inc. (BHRT) said on September 30 said it has launched three clinical studies in Caracas, Venezuela, using stem cells derived from fat tissue to treat cardiac patients.

According to the company, the stem cells aid in limiting damage due to a cardiac event and promote the formation of new blood vessels.

The company, working with Hospital de Clinicas Caracas, has begun three separate studies using adipose-derived stem cells: surgical delivery of cells during a coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedure, percutaneous delivery of cells in chronic heart ischemia, and delivery of cells in critical limb ischemia.

Bioheart said it uses the CE mark approved TGI 1200 System, a fully-automated, point-of-care system that recovers potentially regenerative stem cells from a patient?s own adipose tissue in 60 minutes, to obtain the stem cells.
