A once-doomed athlete is on the road to recovery from a terrible, life-threatening illness thanks to stem cells.

Dave Kurtz, a successful businessman and seven-time Ironman competitor, began losing his strength and doctors diagnosed him with Systemic Scleroderma.

Dr. David Prentice of the Charlotte Lozier Institute says it’s a “nasty” life-threatening disease.

“As one description puts it,” he says, “turns you to stone and that includes not just your extremities or your skin but even your internal organs like your lungs, which kills you.”

Kurtz was crippled with pain and fatigue, and sank into depression, but with the encouragement of his wife he sought alternative treatments. He settled on adult stem cells administered by Dr. Richard Burt of Northwestern University using his own stem cells.

“We don't like to use the ‘C word’ in terms of a cure,” Prentice tells OneNewsNow, “but Dave is definitely on the road to recovery.”

In fact, the determined athlete (see video below) is planning to sail across the Atlantic.

While a vocal critic of research using human embryos, Prentice and Charlotte Lozier Institute are vocal proponents of adult stem cell transplants, which is why Kurtz’s story caught their attention.

Charlotte Lozier says adult stem cell transplants have cured people of sickle cell disease, stroke, heart damage multiple sclerosis, and systemic lupus.

The number of people who have been treated successfully now numbers more than two million.
