Stem cell treatment for my 77 yo Dad w/ COPD?

Hi, I am looking into stem cell therapy for my Dad. I have a call into the three companies linked to at the top of the forum as well as to cellmedicine.com, who is used by Dr. Cheney for his CFS patients.

I am wondering if my Dad even qualifies, that is, if he is too ill. Traveling seems daunting. He is moslty housebound on oxygen, and has exascerbations requiring hospitalization several time a year. In fact, he just got out of post-hospital rehab a couple of weeks ago and is now back in hospital. (Well, his overall functioning really went downhill when he got c. diff early in the year from a pneumonia hospitalization/antibiotics and he is still weak from the surgery for getting his colon removed. He almost didn't make it.) He is totally treated via mainstream medicine, so lots of meds.

Still, I hope it is possible b/c I think it is his only hope to live more than a few months or year. I hope he gets through the winter.

I would love any advice,

Thanks,
Nina

Nina - He is not too old, but traveling could be hazardous for him as you mentioned. It is difficult to travel when well, let alone ill. That's one reason we are fighting so hard for legalization here in the U.S. If you haven't joined the grassroots effort of ICMS, please do so at www.safestemcells.com To me it is criminal to deny people stem cell treatment in this country or any other country when they are suffering from a terminal disease.

We do not endorse any company or doctor on this forum. The 3 companies above are forum sponsors and pay a monthly fee to support our forum. We do not accept everyone however. I would be glad to send you a list of resources, but I think your dad is going to be very limited because of his condition as to where he can have treatment. Can I ask where he lives?

Thank you, Barbara. I would appreciate a list of resources.

My Dad lives in Washington, DC. I live in Austin, TX.

I spoke to Carol at Stem Cell Regen Med. Their clinic is in Scotsdale, AZ (near Phoenix). You spend 5 days there in preperation, then they drive/escort you to one of their 3 clinics in Mexico for the stem cell treatment (via IV), then back to the Scotsdale clinic for 5 days to make sure the stem cells are nourished, etc. Carol's husband has emphysema and did SCT. Also, a woman with FEV1 of 10% who was bedridden did. I suspect she lived in Arizona. I am wondering how my Dad would make it to Scotsdale. (My mom is healthy and would accompany him. I have 2 young children so probably wouldn't.) Does anyone know about airline travel with oxygen?

I also heard back from stemcell.com. Their clinics are in Peru and COsta Rica. They have never worked with someone on oxygen. My Dad probably would not be a candidate. They suggested seeing about a trial in the US.

Hoping to hear back from the other clinics tomorrow.

Thanks,
Nina

It is going to be tough for your dad to go through 5 days of treatment plus in my opinion. The trip to the clinic may be difficult as well. It is so sad to see this type of scenario play out in the U.S. for really no reason but money. We did lose a member making a difficult trip to an offshore clinic not too long ago. She was taken from the plane and died in New Jersey. I will send you a list of a few more resources you can check out.

As for COPD trials in the U.S. There are NONE as in Zero, Nada, ZIP. It is all very disgusting and discouraging and we must fight it, not just for COPD, but all diseases.

Colustrum Medication

Hi Nina,
I,ve just discovered an article in the August 31, 2009 issue of an Australian magazine, namely, "Womans Day" in which a lady suffering from MS experienced a massive improvement in her situation after taking medication based on "Colustrum".

Perhaps it doesnt work for everyone but it is my contention, that it is certainly worth trying, and if it doesn't work, you are no further behind.

In the article, they mention a website,

www.adultstemcellfoundation.org ,

where there is info on where to get the medication, and bags of stuff on stem cells & treatments.

I have scanned the magazine article, but the file is too big to attach here, so if you like, you can contact me directly and I will send the article to you.

I have emphysema, so I am certainly going to give it a bash.

Good luck,

Norm.

Norm - This looks like a commercial site to me as it is advertising a clinic and another commercial site. I have taken colostrum for quite some time. In fact we offer it on www.seachangeforlife.com in powder and liquid and also have a fabulous lotion. We only sell the 1st 6 hour milking colostrum and not the New Zealand colostrum as we feel it is superior. However, I cannot see anyone actually reversing their disease by taking it even if it is in a medicine form based on colostrum. It does help me stay cold and flu free I believe and my husband feels the same, but that is a far cry from reversing my disease. I personally think it is well worth it to use supplements to prevent illness as much as possible.

I have moved this thread to the company promotional forum because that is basically what the site represents to me. I don't understand why a supposed non profit would be posting information on a for profit clinic and another for profit web site.

Stem Cell treatment

Yes, it certainly looks like a company selling stem cell treatment etc. Most surprising since it is supposed to be a non profit organisation.
