posting urls

hi tony, I am having problems recently when trying to post urls as a clickable link.
do I click on insert link before typing a url or after typing it?
there once was atime when I could do it no problem, I guess my brain cells are in need of a break!
any help will be much appreciated

Whenever I post a link I click on the Insert Link (little globe with the paper clip) and a pop-up window displays.
Paste your link into the pop-up window.
Make sure you don't have http: in the pop-up twice because it won't work.
