macular degeneration

Hi everyone,
I've been lurking for a few months, but I wanted to let you know about treatment that I had on 8/29/08, in Cologne, Germany, at the XCell-Center.

XCell used stem cells withdrawn from my hip bone. The stem cell retrieval was done by an orthopedic surgeon, and took about 20 minutes. After that, the 25 tubes of blood/marrow were reduced to a single tube of stem cells and injected in the back of my eye 3 days later. Except for an admirable black eye, I was fine. The treatment itself felt as if my eye was going to explode, but it was mostly pressure rather than pain.

Since I've been back, I have noticed some increased acuity in my peripheral vision, but no improvement in my central vision as of now. The treatment itself was done by Dr. Massimo Lombardi, who has an eye hospital in Rome. He told me that the cells would remain viable for about 3 months and that any improvement would be seen in that timeframe.

I will keep the list up to date on any improvement or lack thereof.
