Findings that may help to refine bone marrow MSC procedure

"Neural transdifferentiation of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells on hydrophobic polymer-modified surface and therapeutic effects in an animal model of ischemic stroke."

I think it is of interest to see that bone marrow MSCs can be primed to be more efficient progenitors for neuronal cellular therapy. Review of many research articles indicates that bone marrow MSCs do not have the capacity to assume a neuronal cell fate but instead work through a mechanism of cell factors for support of endogenous neuronal stem cells. Hope research in this direction can help increase the effectiveness of working with adult bone marrow as a source of MSCs.

Of great interest is this clinical study from China.. Wonder what kind of expansion/differentiation protocol was used...

Neural stem cell-like cells derived from autologous bone mesenchymal stem cells for the treatment of patients with cerebral palsy.
