The future that we all envisage is the day when every infant has their genome sequenced at birth and we utilise that information to optimise health throughout their life

Prior to the last several years where we have seen the medical world explode with so much new technology, people would have said this idea belonged in a science fiction novel. I believe it will become an integral part of this new medicine. It paves the way for healthy living on a new level never experienced before. Totally awesome if you ask me.

Personalized Medicine

I heard of this concept over a year ago from an R & D Rep from a Pharmaceutical Company. Just think of the money it would save to have your doctor know which drugs would work for you. Right now it is a trial and error method. If it doesn't work then we try something else. Meanwhile you can die from the wrong meds.

The downside to this mapping is that young people feel they might be discrimanated against getting insurance if it were known that they had a genetic component that made them susceptible to certain diseases.
